M&A & Strategic Expansion

A clearer case
for your next move.

Market mapping, acquisition-target research and commercial fit assessment for technology companies exploring US expansion.

Assess what an acquisition could add to your business before committing to a transaction process. Start with the objective, the evidence and the questions that need answering.

The acquisition brief
Start with the strategic question

What would this
acquisition add?

  1. 01
    Customers & market access

Which buyers, segments or relationships matter?

  2. 02
    Product & capability

What complements the business you are building?

  3. 03
    Operating fit

What would your team need to make it work?

Questions for the research brief.

Growth through a
considered expansion route.

For SMEs, scaleups and established technology companies evaluating a US presence, a new customer base or complementary capabilities. A specific target is not required to begin the research.

Compare the route before pursuing the target

Build, partner or acquire?

Acquisition is one possible route into a market. Define what the business needs, then compare the options against your resources, priorities and operating capacity.

01 / Build

Develop your own presence

Establish the customer focus, sales approach and operating foundations through a market-entry or GTM engagement.

Explore market entry
02 / Partner

Work with a complement

Explore a distributor, strategic collaborator or pilot partner around a shared customer need.

Explore partnerships
03 / Acquire

Assess an existing business

Research the target landscape and examine whether an acquisition supports the commercial objective.

Explore acquisition research

No route is assumed to be the right one. The research should clarify the tradeoffs, not justify a decision already made.

The work CapHatch can support

Research that makes
the decision clearer.

Begin with market mapping or a specific company you are considering. The scope determines the depth of research, analysis and coordination.

Define the acquisition thesis.

Clarify the expansion objective, target geography, customer segments and capabilities sought. Turn these into criteria for the research.

Starting point: a clear brief, rather than an open-ended search.

Map the market and target landscape.

Research relevant companies and alternatives using available, permitted information. Organize candidates against the agreed criteria, with sources and open questions.

A researched candidate is not necessarily for sale or willing to transact.

Assess the commercial fit.

Examine the customer overlap, product complement, routes to market and operating dependencies supported by the available evidence. Identify assumptions that need further investigation.

Commercial assessment does not replace formal due diligence or valuation.

Prepare the next-stage brief.

Bring together the rationale, information gaps and questions for your management team and transaction specialists. Define what would need to be checked before progressing.

The next step may be deeper review, another route or no further action.

Illustrative engagement outputs

More context.
A better next decision.

The goal is a usable research brief, not a list of names without a rationale. Agree the required outputs before work begins.

Final deliverables and research depth are agreed in the project scope.

01 / Landscape

Market and target map

A structured view of the relevant market, candidate companies and the basis for their inclusion.

02 / Assessment

Commercial fit notes

The rationale, available evidence, gaps and operating questions that affect the expansion case.

03 / Next stage

Decision and specialist brief

A prioritized set of questions and dependencies for the next review with your team and qualified specialists.

How the engagement is scoped

Research first.
The right expertise next.

A focused project or ongoing advisory support.

Commission a defined research and assessment project, or agree a continuing advisory scope as the expansion question develops. Fees reflect the deliverables, research depth, timing and operator involvement.

This work can form part of a broader US expansion engagement. It is not automatically included in Lean Launch or OS access.

CapHatch

Market and target research, commercial fit assessment, preparation of the agreed brief and coordination of identified specialist requirements.

Your company

Accurate inputs, strategic priorities and management availability. Your team retains responsibility for business decisions and commitments.

Qualified specialists

Valuation, legal, tax, financial and regulatory advice, formal due diligence, financing and transaction execution require appropriately qualified providers and separate arrangements.

CapHatch’s role is research, commercial assessment and coordination. Transaction brokerage, capital raising, legal representation and transaction execution are outside this service.

Before we begin

Understand the scope.
Then take the next step.

Can we start without a target company in mind?

Yes. A market-mapping project can define the criteria and examine the candidate landscape. Where you already have a company in mind, the scope can focus on its commercial fit using information you are permitted to share.

Do you source businesses that are definitely for sale?

This service covers research, not a verified marketplace of available acquisitions. A company identified through research may have no interest in a transaction. Seller availability and any approach must be established separately.

Does this include valuation, due diligence or closing the deal?

No. The research and commercial assessment described here are not a substitute for those services. Qualified transaction, legal, financial and tax specialists need to be engaged for their respective work.

Can the engagement compare acquisition with other expansion routes?

Yes. The scope can examine the strategic rationale alongside direct market entry or a partnership route. It need not assume that acquisition is the preferred outcome.

How are pricing, timing and responsibilities agreed?

The proposal defines the research question, deliverables, information required, team involvement, review points and fees. Specialist and transaction-service fees are separate. An acquisition outcome is not guaranteed.

Can CapHatch help with commercial expansion after an acquisition?

US market-entry planning, positioning, GTM or partnership development can be discussed as a separate commercial scope. Full integration management and specialist work are not included automatically.
